Real Madrid manager José Mourinho says he is on a “mission” to restore the club’s fortunes after officially resuming duties at Valdebebas ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Portuguese tactician completed his first day back at the club’s training complex on Friday as preparations intensified for the new season. Real Madrid’s preseason officially begins on Monday, with the club confirming a friendly against Fiorentina in Klagenfurt, Austria, on August 1 — a match that will mark Mourinho’s first game since returning to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV, the 63-year-old expressed his excitement about taking charge once again.
“I have great confidence and a strong feeling that I love this club,” Mourinho said. “Words are not enough because this feels like a mission.”
Mourinho’s return comes at a crucial time for the Spanish giants, who are seeking to bounce back after two consecutive trophyless campaigns. Real Madrid endured disappointing seasons under Carlo Ancelotti before Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa also failed to deliver silverware.
The experienced coach is now tasked with rebuilding confidence, restoring the club’s winning mentality, and guiding Los Blancos back to domestic and European success as the new season approaches.
