The Lagos State Government has intensified enforcement of its commercial motorcycle ban, seizing 70 motorcycles during a routine clean-up operation across major restricted routes on the Island axis.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Wednesday, began at about 9:30 a.m., according to a statement posted on X on Thursday by the Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The operation covered key locations including Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, Abraham Adesanya Junction, and 2nd Rainbow.

According to the ministry, the exercise targeted violations of the highway ban on commercial motorcycles, as well as street trading, illegal parking, unapproved bus stops and other activities deemed disruptive to public safety and traffic flow.

“Seventy (70) motorcycles were confiscated, restoring calm, order, and free traffic flow,” the statement said.

The government disclosed that all seized motorcycles would be forfeited to the state through the courts, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

The ministry thanked residents for their cooperation, reiterating its commitment to ensuring safe and smooth movement across the state.

The latest operation follows earlier reports that the Lagos State Taskforce had impounded 134 motorcycles in coordinated raids across major corridors, including Obalende, CMS Roundabout, Falomo Underbridge, Coastal Road, Mile 2 Bridge, Ladipo Bus Stop, Cele Bus Stop, and the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, as authorities sustain efforts to enforce traffic regulations and curb illegal okada operations.
