Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has spoken about the importance of legacy, motherhood and her personal journey to success.

The celebrated actress made the revelation during a candid conversation on the Afropolitan Podcast, where she reflected on her life, career and the values she hopes to be remembered for.

“Legacy is important to me because when I am gone, that is the only thing people hold on to,” she said. “You won’t think of how much I had, how much I made, or how much I spent. It would be what I stood for.”

The actress also expressed pride in her achievements, noting that her story goes beyond fame and success.

“Emotionally or sentimentally, people would want me to say that I am a mother. But I am proud of all my achievements—from that little girl who lost her father at 12 and was living in Iyana Ipaja, to where I am today,” she said.

Omotola, one of the most influential figures in Nollywood, said her experiences growing up shaped her determination to succeed.

The actress also recalled a challenging period in her life when she felt isolated as many of her close friends relocated abroad.

“There was a time when I felt very down. All my friends started travelling abroad. Four of my best friends left for the UK or America. I felt like life had left me,” she revealed.

Despite those moments, Omotola’s career would later soar, making her one of Nigeria’s most recognisable film stars and a global ambassador for the country’s film industry.
