Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has pledged that any administration he leads after the 2027 elections will serve strictly as a four-year transitional government of national unity.
Speaking on Saturday at the APM’s North-east town hall meeting with stakeholders in Yola, Adamawa State, Makinde said the government that takes office on May 29, 2027, would be all-inclusive and would not extend beyond a single term.
“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he declared.
The clarification comes amid widespread calls for power to shift to the North after eight years of southern leadership.
Makinde accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to deliver on its 2023 campaign promises. He noted that the President had promised to fix electricity within four years or face rejection at the polls, yet power supply remains inadequate. He also cited the collapse of the CNG and electric vehicle policy, the failure of the naira-for-crude initiative, and the recent shift to “price modulation” for petroleum products announced by the Minister of Finance.
The APM candidate demanded greater transparency on fuel pricing. “We are asking for only two things. We do not want too much grammar; we want relief for Nigerians. So, we ask the federal government to release its pricing template so that citizens will know how they arrived at the current petroleum price,” he said.
Makinde identified insecurity, poverty and poor electricity supply as Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, insisting that solutions require sincerity and inclusive policies. “2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” he added.
APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed described the party as the country’s leading opposition platform, pointing to its two governors and other elected officials. He said the party is rapidly gaining members and possesses the experience to play a decisive role in national politics.
APM vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura said the party offers a platform for patriotic and honest Nigerians committed to fixing the country’s problems. He thanked residents of the North-east for their warm reception and promised that the party would soon unveil its full policy agenda as the nationwide campaign begins.
