Governor Seyi Makinde has congratulated the Muslim Ummah and Christian faithful in Oyo State and across Nigeria as the 2026 Ramadan and Lenten seasons commence simultaneously.
In a goodwill message, the governor described the rare overlap of the two sacred fasting periods as a powerful symbol of unity, urging adherents of both Islam and Christianity to use the season for deeper spiritual reflection and renewed commitment to service.
Makinde noted that the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent offers a unique opportunity to reinforce the values of love, sacrifice, tolerance and religious harmony.
“The overlap serves as a reminder of the shared moral principles that bind both religions,” he stated, calling on worshippers not to lose sight of these lessons throughout the fasting period.
The governor commended Muslims and Christians in Oyo State for sustaining peaceful coexistence, describing the state as a model of interfaith harmony.
He also appreciated residents for their continued support of his administration since 2019, noting that their cooperation has contributed to the steady progress recorded in the state.
Makinde encouraged the faithful to use the sacred season to pray for the peace, stability and development of Oyo State and Nigeria, as well as for leaders at all levels of government.
Reassuring citizens of his administration’s dedication, the governor pledged to continue prioritising policies that promote the welfare and collective interest of the people.
As Ramadan and Lent begin side by side, Makinde expressed hope that the season would strengthen unity, deepen faith and inspire acts of compassion across communities.
