A 55-year-old motorist had a miraculous escape on Thursday after a moving train slammed into his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos.

The incident involved a train heading towards Agege and a Honda with registration number EKY 902 JT. The vehicle was extensively damaged in the collision, but the driver emerged unhurt.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), working with security personnel, swiftly rescued the motorist and cleared the wrecked car from the tracks. This allowed the train to continue its journey. Despite the prompt response, heavy traffic congestion lingered around the PWD axis.

The damaged vehicle was later handed over to security agents for further investigation into the cause of the crash, LASTMA confirmed.

Agency General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki praised the coordinated efforts of LASTMA officers and security personnel, describing their quick intervention as a clear example of effective collaboration during railway-related emergencies.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise extreme caution near railway crossings and train corridors. He warned drivers against attempting to cross tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion, stressing that reckless disregard for safety rules could lead to “devastating and irreversible consequences.”

LASTMA also called on all road users to strictly obey traffic and railway safety regulations, emphasizing that the preservation of human life must remain the top priority in every driving decision.
