For Nigerian-born, Canada-based musician Sayo Ojofeitimi, popularly known as Mr Doxology, celebrating his birthday alongside 25 years on stage represents far more than a personal milestone—it is a moment steeped in reflection, gratitude, and cultural pride.
Looking back on his journey, the artist described a path shaped by perseverance through adversity. “The journey is tough and strained, filled with heartbreak, betrayal, and persecution, but with God’s intervention, we have every reason to give glory to Him,” he said.
Mr Doxology’s musical story began early, rooted in a strong spiritual and cultural background. At just eight years old, he joined his local church choir as its youngest member, igniting a passion that would define his life. A key influence during this period was his late uncle, Ajanaku Ojofeitimi, a professional musician and choir leader at The Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Frequent trips with his uncle to gospel performances in Ilesa, Osun State, exposed him to live band music, shaping both his sound and artistic vision.
His professional career took off in 2000 when he began performing live, after serving as a lead vocalist at Eternal Live Evangelical Ministries. Following a pivotal transition within the church, he founded Alade Ogo Music—initially a prayer group that later evolved into a full band.
Though he gained modest recognition in Ilesa, his career experienced a breakthrough in 2007 after acquiring his own musical equipment, shortly before relocating to Canada.
A defining moment came in 2022 when he clinched the Best Band of the Year Award at the Leads Awards in Canada, cementing his influence within the diaspora music scene.
As a dedicated Juju music artist, Mr Doxology continues to champion Yoruba culture on the global stage, positioning himself not just as an entertainer, but as a cultural ambassador.
