Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has strongly responded to critics who suggested that he should retire from music because of his age, insisting that his solo career remains one of the most rewarding decisions of his life.

The singer’s reaction followed a post on X by a user identified as @OloriOfOloris, who shared a clip from one of his music videos and argued that the entertainer, whom the user described as being “almost 50,” should stop making Afrobeats music and consider retirement.

Media personality Do2dtun quickly challenged the remark, describing it as ageist. He pointed out that several internationally acclaimed artists, including Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, and members of the Backstreet Boys, remain active in the music industry despite being older than Mr P.

“Peter is 44, but some people are so ageist that they don’t even realise the damage they cause in the pursuit of social media engagement,” Do2dtun wrote.

Responding to the conversation, Mr P claimed that many of those calling for his retirement are disappointed supporters of the now-defunct P-Square group.

The singer accused critics of double standards, arguing that fans celebrate global stars such as Usher, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown for continuing to perform at a high level while questioning his relevance despite being younger.

Mr P also highlighted his versatility as a performer, noting that he sings, dances, performs live, plays multiple musical instruments, and possesses formal music certification.

“Put some respect on the name Peter Okoye, aka Mr P,” he wrote, maintaining that he remains one of the industry’s most complete entertainers.

Addressing speculation surrounding his solo career, the singer said breaking away from P-Square has been one of the best developments in his personal and professional life.

According to him, most critics are still struggling to accept the group’s split, but he urged them to move on and respect the decisions made by both parties.

Mr P further revealed that he recently secured a five-year, multi-million-dollar agreement with an international music distribution company. The deal, he said, covers the release of three albums and marks another major milestone in his career.

“Nobody can stop this movement. The train has left the station. It’s time to let go and move on. It’s Mr P forever,” he declared.

P-Square, the iconic music duo made up of Peter Okoye and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, officially split in 2017 after years of internal disagreements. Since then, both artistes have continued to pursue independent music careers.
