Sources confirmed to societynowng.com, Minister stealthily working towards great relevance in election matters in political party, People’s Democratic Party- Musiliu Obanikoro and celebrated party leader, Bode George are back at opposing sides on who the party’s flag bearer should be in the next gubernatorial election in Lagos state.
Party leader, George is said to favour Jimmy Agbaje, the cerebral individual with as much ‘serious’ image as that of champion of rival party, All Progressives Congress’ successes and governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola.
Societynowng.com learnt Musiliu Obanikoro is confirmed to have renewed interest in the position. And is disclosed to have made his intention known with ongoing widespread consultation.
This comes after George believed he had ‘sold’ the candidature of Jimmy Agbaje to key elements within the party – at the state and national level, including the presidency- as one with the proper image to help wrest power from APC in the state.
Insiders claim despite this, Obanikoro’s action seen as an head on onslaught against Bode George’s interest, appears to be getting serious consideration.
Especially with his increasing involvement in growing in popularity attempts to recover southwest states in the hands of rival APC for the PDP, and particularly the landslide success at Ekiti state.
Insiders revealed while Bode George relies on the massive follower ship garnered by Agbaje in the robust contest he lost out to incumbent Fashola, and the clean image he has maintained since then to push his (Agbaje’s) candidature- Obanikoro is currently utilising what is described a three prong campaign of : In-depth operational knowledge of the opposition, experience in politics at strategic levels and current positions and on going successes.
And keen watchers of the renewed fight claim, the minister appears to be getting the upper hand.
His supporters told societynowng.com ‘if he plays the same role he did in Ekiti and help win Osun, his guber ambition is all safeguarded’
But whether a repeat history of the last time he contested come to play, remains to be seen.
The last time he sought his party’s candidature in Lagos against the wishes of a then more powerful Bode George. Obanikoro won the ticket and became the flag bearer but suffered massive loss at polls based on what his campaigners labelled ‘ insider collaboration’ against- pointing accusing fingers at the Bode George camp.
Sources however maintained a repeat of this development may not be, based on assertion Bode George has expressed great desire to do ‘all possible’ to ensure Jimmy Agbaje gets the ticket in the unfolding battle of political wits and intrigues.
