Nigerian music video director TG Omori has revealed the steep financial toll of treating kidney failure, warning that even a single dialysis session remains out of reach for minimum-wage earners.
Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast in an interview aired on September 23, 2026, Omori shared details of his ongoing battle with the condition as he awaits a kidney transplant. He disclosed that a dialysis session costs between ₦50,000 and ₦70,000 at some hospitals, while private facilities charged him ₦150,000 to ₦200,000 per session.
Patients typically need three sessions a week, pushing weekly expenses to between ₦500,000 and ₦600,000. “So, a minimum-wage person is dead already on one session,” Omori said.
He estimated that remaining on dialysis for about a year while waiting for a transplant could amount to as much as ₦31 million—before factoring in extra tests, medication, and potential complications. Even someone earning ₦1 million a month would struggle to cope, he noted. “So, automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, it can’t serve you.”
The experience has reshaped Omori’s view of money and support during serious illness. “Even though money can’t buy happiness, money can still buy some time,” he reflected.
