A united Kingdom-based cable television, Arise TV owned by Nigerian media mogul, Nduka Obaigbena has gone off the air amidst a debt crisis totaling about £3m.
Arise TV went off the air just before 5pm on January 14 while a message now shows saying; “Normal service will resume as soon as possible.” The station broadcasts on Sky channel 519 and operates from prime studios overlooking Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.
The Independent reported that senior British journalists who are in the employ of the company are owed to the tune of £1m.
Nduka Obiagbena has been caught in the middle of the $2.1 billion arms scandal after receiving N670 million from the office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki who is under investigations by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The network faces a High Court winding up petition brought by a British television company, having only settled a similar action brought by a British publisher last summer. It also owes money to global news agencies which supply its pictures, including Reuters and Associated Press.
