New NBA President Badejo-Okusanya Promises Stronger Legal Profession, Rule of Law

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), pledging to lead an inclusive association committed to strengthening the legal profession and promoting justice and the rule of law.

Following her victory in the NBA presidential election, Badejo-Okusanya expressed gratitude to members of the association for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the Bar. She described her election as both an honour and a call to greater service.

Speaking shortly after the announcement of the results, the president-elect said she was deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in her and promised to serve all members of the association with integrity, fairness and accountability.

She noted that her nationwide engagement with lawyers during the campaign provided valuable insights into the challenges and aspirations of members, adding that those interactions would shape her administration.

According to her, conversations with legal practitioners across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory strengthened her understanding of the profession’s needs and reinforced her commitment to delivering purposeful leadership.

Badejo-Okusanya also appealed for unity within the association, urging members to put the election behind them and work together to advance the legal profession.

She thanked all lawyers who participated in the election, regardless of the candidates they supported, stressing that the NBA remains one united body dedicated to defending justice, upholding the rule of law and promoting professional excellence.

The president-elect congratulated her fellow contestants for contributing to a credible democratic process and expressed readiness to collaborate with them in building a stronger and more vibrant association.

She also acknowledged the efforts of her campaign team, volunteers, supporters, mentors and family members, while reserving special appreciation for her husband for his unwavering encouragement throughout the campaign.

Badejo-Okusanya pledged to lead the association with courage, humility, integrity and accountability, promising to build an NBA where every lawyer has greater opportunities to earn better, live better and practise more effectively.
