The Ogun State Government has announced a massive ₦100 billion investment in the housing sector for the 2026 fiscal year, targeting the delivery of at least 3,000 new housing units across the state.

Speaking at a press briefing in Oke Mosan on Monday, January 5, 2026, the Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Omoniyi, revealed that the government is prioritizing low-income earners. A flagship project in Siun, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, will see the delivery of 579 units in its first phase by the second quarter of 2026. This is part of a larger 2,500-unit scheme planned for the area.
“We have secured the land and will begin clearing this week,” Omoniyi stated. “Construction will commence before the end of January, with the first phase expected to be delivered by May or June..

The commissioner disclosed that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodunhas already delivered over 5,000 housing units in the last six and a half years—surpassing the combined efforts of previous administrations. The 2026 push is part of a strategic roadmap to hit a target of 10,000 units before the administration’s tenure ends in May 2027.
Beyond residential estates, the 2026 “Budget of Sustainable Legacy” includes several high-profile infrastructure projects:
  • International Conference Centre: A 2,500-seat banquet hall at Gateway International Airport, Iperu.
  • Judiciary & Legislative Quarters:Construction of the Appeal Court headquarters, residences for judges, and quarters for State Assembly members.
  • Urban Regeneration: Continuation of the Ibara GRA Phase II, featuring 50 new duplexes, and the Havila Court project.
This state-level offensive comes as Nigeria grapples with a national housing deficit estimated at 28 million units. While the Federal Minister of Housing, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, has called for a ₦5.5 trillion annual investment to build 550,000 units nationwide, Ogun State is positioning itself as a leader in sub-national housing delivery.
Omoniyi dismissed 2025’s criticisms of the housing drive, describing them as misinformation. He reaffirmed that the state remains focused on slum regeneration and providing “human-face” housing for workers and artisans.
