The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of fast-rising Fuji singer Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a comprehensive investigation.

In a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed that investigations had commenced immediately after the incident was reported.

“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy,” the statement read. “The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

The singer’s death became public on Sunday after disturbing videos showing his lifeless body being transported to a mortuary surfaced on social media, triggering widespread grief and speculation among fans and colleagues.

In one of the viral clips, Destiny Boy was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears, further fueling concern over the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Amid the speculation, an unidentified associate of the artiste released a separate video attempting to clarify the situation, stating that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.

“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death,” the man said. “We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it.”

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and carved a niche for himself with his energetic Fuji-infused sound. He started out at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji star, Pasuma.

He rose to fame in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained massive traction on social media. He later followed up with covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.

The late singer also released several original tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.

The Ogun State Police Command said it would provide further updates as investigations into the singer’s death continue.
