Senator Gbenga Daniel was one of the standout figures at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival as thousands of Ijebu sons and daughters gave him a thunderous reception in recognition of his legislative record and developmental efforts across Ogun East Senatorial District.

The former Ogun State governor and current senator received a standing ovation upon his arrival at the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode, with chants of “OGD! OGD! OGD!” echoing throughout the venue. The spontaneous show of support transformed the cultural celebration into a moment of appreciation for a politician many residents credit with delivering visible results in office.

Observers described the reception as a reflection of Daniel’s enduring popularity and strong grassroots connection across Ijebuland. Many attendees noted that the enthusiastic welcome was driven by recognition of his contributions both in the National Assembly and through projects facilitated across Ogun East communities.

Among those who praised the senator was Iyalode Afolashade Kasali, President of Tobalase Gbogbo Obirin Obalofin Akile Ijebu, who described Daniel as a distinguished son of Ijebuland whose humility, integrity and commitment to public service continue to earn him admiration.

According to Kasali, the senator has consistently demonstrated respect for people regardless of social status while remaining committed to the welfare and development of Ogun East residents.

Since joining the Senate, Daniel has established a reputation as one of the more active lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly. Within less than three years, he has sponsored 16 bills and moved four major motions covering areas such as regional development, healthcare, education, constitutional reform and economic empowerment.

One of his most notable legislative achievements is the South-West Development Commission Bill, which received presidential assent and created a framework for coordinated federal development initiatives across the South-West region. Stakeholders have described the legislation as a landmark step towards accelerating infrastructure development and increasing federal investment opportunities.

The senator has also championed initiatives aimed at strengthening education and healthcare in Ogun East, including bills relating to aviation education, Tai Solarin University and the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode.

Beyond legislative activities, Daniel’s tenure has been marked by several constituency projects, including road rehabilitation, rural electrification programmes, transformer distribution, solar-powered street lighting and support for the development of the Abigi Naval Base.

Residents across Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ijebu East, Odogbolu and Ago-Iwoye have pointed to ongoing and completed infrastructure projects as evidence of increased federal presence within the district.

His interventions have also extended to social welfare and economic empowerment. Through the Gateway Front Foundation, thousands of residents have benefited from medical outreach programmes, while traders and market women have accessed interest-free loans designed to support small businesses.

Daniel has equally used his legislative platform to address pressing community concerns, including recurring flooding in parts of Ogun East and allegations of military encroachment raised by residents of Apuren Community.

Supporters have also highlighted his proposed constitutional amendment seeking the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province, describing it as a significant effort toward expanding political representation and economic opportunities for the people of Ijebuland and Remoland.

Speaking at the festival, several attendees said the overwhelming reception reflected public appreciation rather than political mobilisation.

A resident identified as Rasheed said the cheers were spontaneous because many people believe the senator has fulfilled the mandate entrusted to him through visible projects and active representation in Abuja.

Another attendee described the ovation as a natural expression of gratitude, noting that effective leadership often earns recognition from the people it serves.

As festivities continued at Ojude Oba 2026, the enthusiastic reception for Senator Gbenga Daniel reinforced his status as one of the most influential political figures in Ijebuland and highlighted the strong support he continues to enjoy among constituents across Ogun East.
