First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to promote inclusion and uphold the dignity of persons living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, emphasizing their vital role in society.

In a message marking World Autism Awareness Day 2026 on Thursday, the First Lady joined the international community in reaffirming the ā€œdignity, worth, and limitless potentialā€ of individuals on the autism spectrum.

She noted that this year’s theme, ā€œAutism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,ā€ highlights the need to recognise people living with autism as integral members of society whose contributions enrich communities and strengthen collective progress.

ā€œPeople living with autism are an important part of our shared humanity. Their lives, voices, and contributions enrich our communities and strengthen our collective future,ā€ she said.

However, Senator Tinubu cautioned against the persistence of misinformation and harmful stereotypes about autism, urging Nigerians to foster greater understanding and acceptance.

ā€œAt a time when misinformation and harmful narratives about autism sometimes reemerge, we must remain steadfast in promoting understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all,ā€ she added.

The First Lady further called for collective action to build a society rooted in respect for human dignity, equal rights, and the unconditional value of every individual, regardless of their condition.
