First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to promote inclusion and uphold the dignity of persons living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, emphasizing their vital role in society.
In a message marking World Autism Awareness Day 2026 on Thursday, the First Lady joined the international community in reaffirming the ādignity, worth, and limitless potentialā of individuals on the autism spectrum.
She noted that this yearās theme, āAutism and Humanity ā Every Life Has Value,ā highlights the need to recognise people living with autism as integral members of society whose contributions enrich communities and strengthen collective progress.
āPeople living with autism are an important part of our shared humanity. Their lives, voices, and contributions enrich our communities and strengthen our collective future,ā she said.
However, Senator Tinubu cautioned against the persistence of misinformation and harmful stereotypes about autism, urging Nigerians to foster greater understanding and acceptance.
āAt a time when misinformation and harmful narratives about autism sometimes reemerge, we must remain steadfast in promoting understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all,ā she added.
The First Lady further called for collective action to build a society rooted in respect for human dignity, equal rights, and the unconditional value of every individual, regardless of their condition.
