Business magnate and philanthropist, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo, has penned a touching tribute to celebrate the first year memorial of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the former Awujale of Ijebuland.

Oba Adetona died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a brief illness. He was aged 91.

Omooba Onabanjo who is from the Fusengbuwa Royal House, is a strong contender for the Awujale throne. He wrote a tribute, titled, “One Year On, Yet His Legacy Continues To Speak”, to commemorate the first anniversary of Oba Adetona’s transition.

Below is the full text of the tribute:

Today marks one year since the passing of our revered father, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of ljebu land. A monarch whose reign redefined leadership, preserved our heritage, and elevated the prestige of ljebu land across generations.

As I journey through the pages of his remarkable biography, I am reminded that true royalty is not merely inherited; it is earned through vision, service, courage, and an unwavering commitment to one’s people.

His life remains a timeless lesson in wisdom, integrity, and selfless leadership. His story is more than history. It is a guide, a source of inspiration, and a solemn reminder of the responsibility that comes with serving ljebuland.

May the soul of our revered Kabiyesi continue to rest in perfect peace, and may his enduring legacy forever illuminate the path of those who seek to serve our people with honour.
A year may have passed, but legends never leave. Their values live on in the hearts they inspire.
