Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced plans to convene a security summit for traditional rulers across the South-West following the endorsement of the Iru Ekun Security Network by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The monarch pledged support for the security outfit with a donation of N100 million and a brand new Toyota Hiluxvehicle.
Igboho disclosed that the proposed summit, to be hosted by the Ooni in Ile-Ife, would bring together traditional rulers from across the region to deliberate on security, regional unity and other issues aimed at protecting and promoting the collective interests of Yorubaland.
Speaking in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media office, Igboho described the Ooni’s financial and logistical support as a demonstration of the monarch’s commitment to strengthening community-based security and ensuring lasting peace across the South-West.
The activist, who launched the Iru Ekun Security Network in Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday, said traditional institutions remain key partners in tackling insecurity and safeguarding communities.
He expressed confidence that the support from the Ooni would strengthen the operations of the security outfit as it works alongside the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to combat crime.
Igboho said the security network would maintain a zero-tolerance approach to criminal activities within the confines of the law, adding that efforts would continue to ensure farmers could return safely to their farms without fear of attacks, abductions or sexual violence.
He also revealed that the Iru Ekun Security Network had continued to receive support from prominent Nigerians, including judges, technocrats and other respected individuals who shared its vision of building a peaceful and secure society.
According to him, preparations for the regional summit are already underway, with discussions expected to focus on security, unity and other strategic matters affecting the South-West.
Meanwhile, the Ooni of Ife described Sunday Igboho as a courageous son of Oduduwa whose commitment to promoting peace, security and development deserves widespread support.
Receiving the activist at his palace in Ile-Ife, the monarch commended the establishment of the Iru Ekun Security Network, stressing that protecting lives and property is a collective responsibility that goes beyond political, religious or ideological differences.
The Ooni further appealed to Yoruba sons and daughters, traditional rulers, traditionalists, community leaders, business executives, professionals and other stakeholders across the world to support the security outfit in the collective effort to enhance security across the South-West.
