Political heavyweights across Nigeria’s opposition landscape have begun arriving in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for a pivotal national summit widely seen as a precursor to the 2027 general elections.

Among the early arrivals are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, both key figures in ongoing opposition realignments.

Other prominent leaders expected at the summit include former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and ex-Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, alongside a host of influential stakeholders across party lines.

The high-profile gathering is being hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), further signaling the party’s central role in opposition coalition talks.

Atiku, who is reportedly eyeing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections, shared a video of his arrival via his Facebook page. The footage captured a large, enthusiastic crowd of supporters who thronged the venue to welcome him to Ibadan.

The summit is expected to shape discussions around coalition-building, electoral strategy, and leadership positioning as opposition parties seek to strengthen their chances in the next general election cycle.
