President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Adeleke’s re-election as a reflection of the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the election on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Adeleke secured victory in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won 11 local government areas.
The final results showed that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, with a margin of 66,252 votes.
Tinubu said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on the electoral victory, adding that the outcome demonstrated the confidence Osun voters had placed in the governor.
He urged the governor to use his second term to unite the people of the state and pursue policies that would promote growth, stability and socio-economic development.
The President also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, saying their involvement strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture.
According to him, the outcome of the election reflected the will of the people and demonstrated that democracy continues to thrive in Nigeria.
Tinubu further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
