+Why Lagos Assembly Moves To Demolish His Petrol Station
Highflying socialite and oil industry big boy, DEMOLA SHABI, who is known as Akile in the social circle is now being thumbed up as the newest king of money in the high society. Within a space of near 36 months, the Ogun state born oil baron is alleged to have built 22 filling stations and one petrochemical plants to his name.
Demola Shabi, who trades under the name – PETROLEUM MANAGERS (PM) is said to have the filling stations spread across south western states. While the petrochemical plant situated at Plot 27, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, is described as one of the best of its kind. Today, PM is regarded as one of the major player in the lubricant sector.
Insiders further claimed that the Plant which was commissioned sometime in 2015, is now at the forefront in lubricant industry.
However, unknown to many, the plum size oil baron, who had consistently remain as a dazzler in the Lagos-Ogun social circuit is said to be a civil servant! SOCIETYGISTS gathered from privileged source in the Lagos seat of power that Demola Shabi works with the DEPARTMENT OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES (DPR) on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Another source claimed that Akile, who is one of the Senior Technical Officers with the DPR is stupendously rich, and the wealth to many oil industry watchers is simply outrageous.
DPR, the apex regulatory agency in the oil and gas industry is headed by Mordecai Danteni Ladan and it is saddled with the issuance of permits, licenses, Field development plan (FDP) Rig licenses. Few months back, the agency was embroiled in scandal when it was discovered that its Oil and Gas Industry Service Permit (OGISP) platform was using the server of a private companies, to the neglect of the highly sophisticated and government installed National Data Repository (NDR)
SOCIETY GISTS equally gathered that one of his many petrol stations has been ordered to be demolish through the resolution of the Lagos State House of Assembly passed at the plenary of Thursday of November 17, 2016.
Sometime late last year, the Iju Youth Action Committee, we learnt, had petitioned the Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode and the State House of Assembly. “Sir, your attention is hereby called to the parcel of land around Gudugba Bus Stop, Iju Area that belongs to the Lagos State Government with concrete pillar marked MCS 369T, the coordinates of which are 294665.436 metres North and 100709.034 metres East of Nigeria National Origin. In which is been reserved for the project of Local Government Area Fire Service Station. But, to our greatest surprise we observed that of recent an individual is occupying the said land for the construction of a filling station…” the petition read.
While Governor Ambode is said to have failed to act on the petition, the Lagos State House of Assembly through the Speaker, Hon Obasa forwarded the petition to the house committee on Special Duties and Inter- Governmental Relations chaired by Hon Hakeem Sokunle for investigation.
On Friday, January 15, 2016, the committee accompanied by top officials from the Office of the Lands Bureau paid an on the spot assessment visit to the disputed land. The committee later had a public hearing on the said land dispute, where documentation from the petitioners, respondents and relevant government officials are collated.
SOCIETYGISTS can reveal authoritatively that those who appeared at the public hearing included the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Wasiu Anifowoshe, the General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) Engr O.L Adeigbe, the GM of Lagos State Physical Planning Authority, Toyin Abdul, the Chief Lands Officer of the Lands Bureau, Mr Olayinka Wasiu amongst other government functionaries. Also, Petroleum Managers Limited was represented by Emman Odimba Esq, Ademola Esho and Ojelana Shina Esq.
The committee found out that “the Certificate of Occupancy tendered by Petroleum Managers which occupies 1410.620 square meters with the registration number 30/30/2002F was not that of the occupied land, but a different parcel of land which is located somewhere in Akute, Ogun state – as confirmed by the Lagos Lands Bureau”
Hon Hakeem Sokunle’s committee also discovered that the disputed land is 1.186 Hectares and was acquired by Lagos State Government for the construction of a fire station, a post office and a town hall for the community during the reign of (Late) Air Commodore Gbolahan Mudashiru as governor of Lagos State in December 1984 and was gazetted in 1985, after which the owners of the land were compensated.
SOCIETYGISTS investigations revealed that one Mr Ariyo Oye was the one compensated for the land. The land grabbers then went on to sell it to one Alhaja. When she discovered that it was government acquisition, the Alhaja quickly sold the land to NATHOLE PETROLEUM LIMITED of Agbe Road, Abule Egba, Lagos, who in turn found a good buyer for the land in Petroleum Managers. However, the house committee has found out that Nathole Petroleum Limited used a fake Certificate of Occupancy to sell the land to PM.
