Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated former governor Dr Kayode Fayemi on his 61st birthday, describing him as a rare gift to Ekiti State, Nigeria and the global community.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor praised Fayemi for his immense contributions to the growth and development of Ekiti State, noting that his leadership helped position the state as an enviable subnational entity within and beyond Nigeria.
Governor Oyebanji thanked God for granting the former governor long life, sound health and mental strength, while commending his continued relevance and service to Ekiti in a private capacity as a respected elder statesman.
He said Fayemi’s life and achievements reflected divine grace, considering the remarkable milestones he has attained at a relatively young age.
According to the governor, history will be kind to Fayemi—also a former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF)—for using public office as a platform for selfless service to humanity at state, national, continental and global levels.
Oyebanji described his predecessor as a mentor, role model, builder of men and a passionate believer in the greatness of Ekiti, as well as an unwavering optimist about Nigeria’s future.
He added that Fayemi’s enduring legacy as a scholar, pro-democracy activist, committed progressive, transformational leader and eminent statesman continues to inspire younger generations across the country.
The governor noted that Fayemi’s experience as a two-term governor, former minister, ex-NGF chairman and current President of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF) has made him a respected global voice on good governance and leadership.
Oyebanji also commended the former governor for his continued support and invaluable advice, which he said have remained beneficial to Ekiti State.
“On behalf of the government and good people of Ekiti State, I congratulate this great leader and man of honour from the Land of Honour on his 61st birthday. I pray that God will continue to bless him with good health, wisdom and an excellent spirit as he continues to contribute to nation-building,” the statement said.
