The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Adegoke, has held a closed-door meeting with a chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Alhaji Abdul-Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, in Ibadan.
Adegoke, who was accompanied by the ADC Deputy National Women Leader (South-West), Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, popularly known as Aje-Iya, visited Olopoeyan at his residence in the Basorun area of Ibadan on Thursday.
The purpose of the meeting was not made public, as both Adegoke and Olopoeyan declined to disclose details of their discussions.
However, political sources suggested that the meeting may have been linked to the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, as political parties and influential figures begin positioning ahead of the poll.
Adegoke and Olopoeyan were previously political allies in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before later moving to the APM and ADC respectively.
The meeting also comes amid reported differences between Olopoeyan and Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, over the selection of candidates for the December 2026 local government elections.
Sources said Olopoeyan and Makinde are supporting different candidates ahead of the local government election, a development that could influence political alignments in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
