The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), backed by Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of an appeal filed against the party’s convention, insisting it is unaware of any such legal action.

Speaking at a pre-convention press conference on Saturday, the committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said there was no knowledge of any appeal by the Tanimu Turaki group challenging the Court of Appeal judgment on the party’s internal crisis.

Mohammed also refuted claims of a court order halting the convention, describing such reports as “social media fabrications.”

“As you have heard, the convention will go ahead tomorrow, and all arrangements have been concluded,” he said. “Any insinuations are things we are only seeing on social media. By the grace of God, on March 29, the convention will hold as scheduled.”

He stressed that the committee had not been served with any court processes and could not comment on claims lacking official notification.

“We are not aware of any court order or appeal filed anywhere. If anything exists, it may well be in the realm of social media. We have not been served,” he added.

The PDP spokesperson distinguished the planned convention from previous disputed gatherings, noting that the upcoming exercise is backed by law and enjoys judicial support.

“In our case, we have the full backing of the courts, the law, and members of the party,” he said.

Mohammed further assured that the convention would be inclusive, revealing that several prominent figures who had previously remained neutral would be in attendance. These include former Senate President Bukola Saraki and ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, alongside lawmakers and key stakeholders.

He acknowledged internal differences within the party but maintained that a majority of members support the current direction.

“The party has taken a direction. Anyone who feels aggrieved and chooses not to align with us is within their constitutional rights,” he said.

On preparations, Mohammed said the caretaker committee had ensured full compliance with party guidelines and legal requirements, guaranteeing a credible and transparent process.

“As we stand on the threshold of the 2026 National Convention, we do so with confidence and commitment to unity and progress,” he stated, describing the event as a defining moment for the party.

He urged members to remain calm amid tensions and reiterated the party’s openness to reconciliation, while warning against attempts to disrupt the process.

Mohammed also expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his support in providing a conducive environment for the convention in Abuja.

He concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to democratic values and national development, expressing optimism that the convention would strengthen the party’s position ahead of future political contests.
