The Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has received the Peace Ambassador Award from the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC).

The award was conferred at the Nigeria @66 Peace & Governance Leadership Excellence Awards held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, themed “The Journey So Far; Navigating The Journey Ahead,” was organised in collaboration with ARISE O’Nigeria and UNIPGC Africa.

Adebutu was represented by the Secretary of the Ogun State PDP Elders Council, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, who conveyed the candidate’s appreciation to the organisers.

In his message, Adebutu called for the institutionalisation of public political debates as a standard requirement for assessing candidates seeking elective offices at both state and national levels. He argued that structured debates would allow citizens to scrutinise aspirants’ policy positions, knowledge, administrative experience and leadership style.

Such debates, he maintained, would help expose false claims and questionable credentials while promoting higher ethical standards in public leadership. Adebutu stressed that the quality of leadership has direct implications for peace and development, warning that poor leadership can fuel instability and stagnation.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the PDP candidate urged political actors, stakeholders and youths to reject electoral violence and embrace peaceful democratic participation. He described peaceful engagement as essential for credible elections and the strengthening of democratic governance.

Ogun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Dr. Yomi Tella, congratulated Adebutu on the recognition, describing it as significant and praising his advocacy for issue-based politics and peaceful democratic participation. The party also called on residents of Ogun State and other stakeholders to support its “rescue mission” ahead of the 2027 elections.
