Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has responded to an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over allegations he made during the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt.
VeryDarkMan appeared as a panelist at the conference on Tuesday, where he accused some police officers of contributing to the country’s worsening insecurity.
The activist alleged that certain officers stationed at checkpoints along major highways provide kidnappers and bandits with information about travellers, including their identities and movements.
Following the allegations, the Nigeria Police Force invited VeryDarkMan to provide evidence to support his claims.
The invitation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
However, reacting to the development in a post on his official Facebook page, VeryDarkMan maintained his position and accused some members of the police of being involved in the security challenges confronting the country.
He went further to allege that some police personnel are among the individuals described as “unknown gunmen.”
VeryDarkMan said he would provide the evidence supporting his allegations only if he is charged before a court of law.
“On the Nigerian police, I SAID WHAT I SAID. You will get your evidence when I am charged to court.
“I repeat, THE POLICE ARE THE UNKNOWN GUNMEN and they aid kidnappings. I’m going to give the police my evidence. I will be charged to court and I will tender the evidence in the court,” he declared.
The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity across Nigeria and renewed scrutiny of allegations involving security personnel and criminal networks.
