The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged acid attack on a 17-year-old boy, identified as Walid Mohammed, in Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Yola.
According to the police, the incident occurred on January 14, 2026, at Shagari Quarters, Yola South LGA, when the teenager was allegedly attacked while on his way to a mosque.
“On January 14, 2026, the victim, a 17-year-old, ran to the Shagari Division Headquarters in distress, reporting that while on his way to the mosque, he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by one Idris Hamza, a resident of Shagari, Yola South LGA,” Nguroje stated.
He added that following the report, the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention, where he is currently receiving treatment. The alleged suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.
Nguroje further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure a comprehensive and thorough investigation.
The police assured the public that justice would be pursued in line with the law as investigations continue.
