Nigerian singer and songwriter Qing Madi has shared a troubling experience of being allegedly overcharged at a local pharmacy, revealing how fame can sometimes invite exploitation.

Speaking during an appearance on the Tea with Tay podcast, the “See Finish” crooner recounted how she was asked by her father to step out of their car to purchase medication from a nearby pharmacy.

According to the singer, the situation quickly turned uncomfortable as pharmacy staff recognised her and began taking photos and videos while she approached the counter.

She disclosed that the drug, which was originally priced at N2,000, was allegedly sold to her for a staggering N50,000.

“Sometimes, before, because my parents didn’t know how much I had spent at the time. Not until one day, I was in the car with my parents, and they asked me to get down in front of the pharmacy to get medicine. Now, mind you, my father was there. I’m not going to say no,” she said.

Madi explained that the incident escalated when her father confronted the pharmacy staff over the inflated price, but they reportedly denied any wrongdoing.

“When I got there, they started taking pictures of me,” she added. “To my shock, the drug that originally cost N2,000 was sold to me for N50,000. My dad got very angry and went back for them, but they denied it. I was so embarrassed because of everything, the photos, the overcharge.”

The singer’s revelation underscores the challenges public figures may encounter in routine situations, where their celebrity status can influence how they are treated.

Known for hit songs like “See Finish” and “Ole,” Qing Madi said she shared the experience as a cautionary tale, urging awareness around fairness and transparency in everyday transactions, especially for individuals in the public eye.
