Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has urged men to be intentional about their choice of life partners, warning against marrying women who see them primarily as financial providers rather than equal contributors.

In a post shared on his social media platform, Omokri drew a sharp distinction between what he described as marrying a “buddy” and wedding a “burden,” advising men to seek partners who are committed to building a shared future.

“Dear men, marry a woman who wants a husband and life partner. Not one who wants a financier for her expensive lifestyle… You need a contributor in your life, not someone whose only ambition after marriage is to be a distributor of your wealth, which she did not contribute to building,” he wrote.

Omokri further argued that basing marriage solely on happiness may be misguided, as happiness is often temporary and dependent on circumstances. Instead, he encouraged men to prioritise value addition in relationships.

“It is not the best idea to marry someone who makes you happy. Happiness depends on happenings and, therefore, is not stable. Instead, marry someone who adds value to you. Value lasts and can lead to joy,” he added.

The former presidential aide maintained that while it may be easy to feel happy in a casual relationship, the realities of marriage can quickly expose incompatibilities if a partner does not contribute meaningfully to the union.

His comments have since sparked conversations online about expectations, financial responsibility, and partnership roles in modern marriages.
