Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly ruled out a move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri, despite the Spanish international’s desire to return to his homeland.
Reports indicate that Rodri, who previously played for Atletico Madrid before joining Manchester City, is eager to secure a transfer back to Spain and has long viewed Real Madrid as his preferred destination.
However, Perez is said to have consistently opposed any attempt by the LaLiga giants to negotiate for the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, even as newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho begins preparations for the new season with the squad.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are working to retain the services of the influential midfielder. The Premier League champions have reportedly offered Rodri a new contract, with negotiations ongoing since April. His current deal is due to expire next summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on X that Rodri has maintained his ambition of joining Real Madrid for several months, but the Spanish club’s president has repeatedly blocked the move.
Romano also noted that City’s contract proposal remains on the table as the English champions seek to convince the midfielder to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
