Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday made an unscheduled trip to Maiduguri, Borno State, to mourn with the Nigerian Army and the state government after a fresh terrorist attack claimed the lives of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and several soldiers.

The visit, carried out on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscored the Federal Government’s concern over the incident and its broader implications for national security.

In a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Shettima expressed profound grief over the loss, describing the fallen officers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

Addressing troops and government officials, the Vice President paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the deceased personnel, emphasizing that their dedication to protecting lives and communities would not be forgotten.

“These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very high cost,” he said.

Shettima reassured the military of the Federal Government’s continued support in the fight against insurgency and other security threats, stressing that the administration remains determined to restore lasting peace across the country.

He also conveyed President Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down those responsible for the attack, warning that perpetrators would face justice.

“Criminals will have no hiding place under this administration,” the Vice President declared.
