A social media user identified as _elite_girl has publicly apologised to influencer and entrepreneur Priscilla Ojo following a controversial post that falsely attributed comments on postpartum depression to her.
The now-deleted post claimed that Priscilla, when asked about marriage after childbirth, said she had never experienced postpartum depression and described the condition as “an illusion caused by poverty.” The claim quickly went viral, triggering widespread criticism and outrage on social media.
Reacting to the post, Priscilla Ojo firmly denied making such remarks and demanded proof, describing the claim as insensitive and offensive to mothers.
“I never said this. What’s wrong with Twitter people? Be ready to provide evidence. What do you mean I said ‘postpartum is an illusion caused by poverty’? Insulting to mothers… very insensitive,” she wrote on Snapchat.
Amid the backlash, elite_girl released a lengthy apology, taking responsibility for the post and explaining that it was published by someone else who was managing her page at the time.
“I am deeply sorry, Priscilla. I sincerely ask for your forgiveness,” she wrote. “Although it was not authored by me personally, I acknowledge that anything shared on my platform remains my responsibility.”
She added that she attempted to have the post taken down immediately, noting that it conflicted with her personal values, but regretted being misled into leaving it online temporarily.
Describing the incident as distressing, elite_girl appealed for mercy, stressing that she never intended to disrespect Priscilla Ojo, whom she said she deeply admires.
“I give you my word that this will never happen again. I am truly sorry from the depth of my heart,” she wrote, while also expressing concern about the emotional toll the controversy had taken on her family.
The apology appears to have brought some closure to the incident, which reignited conversations around misinformation, accountability, and sensitivity in discussions about maternal mental health on social media.
