The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “recycled political coalition,” insisting the opposition lacks the capacity to challenge the ruling party’s grip on power in the state.
The APC said that regardless of the platform adopted by the coalition, it would suffer a crushing defeat in future elections, stressing that the party remains firmly rooted and politically dominant across the caliphate.
State Chairman of the APC, Isah Sadik Achida, made the remarks on Thursday at an all-inclusive stakeholders’ meeting of party leaders and members in Tambuwal Local Government Area.
The meeting was organised by the Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto Youths Contact, Mobilisation and Enlightenment Ambassadors as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots support for the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Achida said the political figures regrouping under the ADC were familiar actors who had previously held power but failed to deliver tangible development to the people of Sokoto State, describing them as politicians who had already exhausted their relevance.
“We all know them. They had eight years and failed to deliver,” he said. “They have nothing new to offer the people, except attempts that could further destroy the state. I leave Sokoto people to judge them with honesty.”
The APC chairman argued that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has, within a short period, surpassed the performance of his predecessor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, even in Tambuwal’s home local government.
According to him, the achievements recorded under the current administration are anchored on visionary leadership provided by former governor and senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, particularly in infrastructure development, governance and inclusive appointments.
“The APC remains united, resilient and attractive. No rebranded opposition alliance can undermine our growing support base,” Achida said, urging party members and stakeholders to remain steadfast and more united ahead of 2027.
Tambuwal Records ‘Unprecedented Gains’ Under APC
Also speaking, a party stalwart and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko Tambuwal, who represented Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, said Tambuwal Local Government had witnessed significant improvements across nearly all sectors since the APC administration took office.
He praised the commitment of the party’s youth and women wings, describing their dedication to unity, brotherhood and perseverance as vital to sustaining the APC’s political success in the area.
Tambuwal highlighted Senator Wamakko’s inclusive leadership style, describing him as a unifying political force whose strategic mentorship produced a resilient governor in Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
“We are proud of the quality of governance in Sokoto State today,” he said. “The people of Tambuwal have every reason to appreciate the governor for identifying with us in development and governance. This is a clear departure from what we experienced under someone we regarded as our own, who completed his tenure without tangible impact.”
He cited various empowerment and development initiatives that have enabled many residents to become self-reliant through different trades and skills.
Renewed Hope Agenda Gains Ground
Meanwhile, the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda is said to be gaining momentum across the state, with its action plans being rapidly implemented at the grassroots.
Local government coordinators, known as ambassadors, are driving the expansion of the initiative, particularly following the reported mass defection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and members from several wards in Tambuwal Local Government Area to the ruling APC.
