Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has openly declared support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, insisting he has no regrets about his stance.
Speaking during a live television interview in Awka on Thursday, Soludo described the President as a trusted ally and friend, while urging other presidential hopefuls to reconsider their ambitions ahead of the next election cycle.
“I am unapologetic. Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win a second term,” the governor stated.
Soludo also revealed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would not field a presidential candidate in 2027, maintaining a similar position to its approach in the 2023 elections when the party backed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
He argued that the decision should not be interpreted as anti-party activity, but rather as a strategic collaboration designed to foster governance and accelerate development.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor further noted that his administration has enjoyed a productive working relationship with the federal government since Tinubu assumed office in 2023, adding that the President has shown consistent support for Anambra State.
According to Soludo, APGA’s focus remains on consolidating its strength at the state and regional levels while aligning with a presidential candidate it believes can deliver results at the national stage.
However, the governor’s endorsement is said to be generating quiet unease among some party members, who fear the move could trigger internal tensions within APGA’s ranks as political activities ahead of 2027 begin to gather momentum.
