Fresh details have emerged on the ongoing campaign for the creation of Ijebu State, with reports indicating that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), is playing a central role in driving the initiative within the National Assembly.

Supporters of the movement claim that Daniel has been instrumental in mobilizing legislative backing, allegedly securing support from 75 out of 109 senators in favour of the proposed state. Political observers say this, if accurate, reflects his influence within the Senate and his long-standing commitment to the statehood agenda.

The development has, however, stirred debate across political circles in Ogun State, with some stakeholders questioning the level of involvement of other elected representatives from Ogun East in advancing the campaign.

Critics particularly allege that the district’s representation in the House of Representatives has not matched the same level of lobbying success in securing endorsements for the proposal in the Green Chamber, despite what they describe as strong grassroots support for the creation of Ijebu State.

Supporters of the initiative, however, insist that the push for state creation goes beyond partisan politics, arguing that it is driven by the need for improved governance, faster development, and stronger political representation for the region.

They further maintain that history will ultimately judge political leaders based on how much they contributed to the aspirations of their people.

As constitutional amendment discussions continue at the national level, advocates of Ijebu State say they remain confident that sustained advocacy and legislative engagement will eventually lead to its realization.

The campaign remains one of the most prominent political demands in Ogun East, with renewed calls for unity among stakeholders in the interest of future generations.
