President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, signaling another round of high-level political consultations.
The meeting, originally scheduled to hold at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, was delayed and eventually commenced around 5 p.m. at the Conference Room of the President’s Office following a last-minute venue change.
Among the governors in attendance are Babagana Zulum (Borno), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), alongside several others. Some states are represented by their deputy governors.
As of the time of filing this report, the agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, fueling speculation about its significance amid ongoing political and economic developments in the country.
The gathering comes barely 24 hours after President Tinubu held an emergency closed-door session with the extended leadership of the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele disclosed after the meeting that “far-reaching decisions” were reached on matters described as being of urgent national importance.
According to Bamidele, the decisions were prompted by a resolution adopted during a closed executive session of the Senate earlier on Wednesday.
Details of both meetings remain sketchy, but political observers believe they may be connected, suggesting coordinated efforts between the executive and legislative arms of government on critical national issues.
More details are expected to emerge as developments unfold.
