The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has said President Bola Tinubu is laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s long-term economic growth and shared prosperity through bold and strategic reforms.

Idris made the remarks while receiving members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister noted that the Tinubu administration has taken difficult but necessary decisions to stabilise the economy and restore confidence.

“The administration has taken bold and sometimes difficult decisions to place Nigeria on a more sustainable path,” Idris said. “Early signs of recovery are becoming evident across key sectors of the economy.”

He explained that the policies implemented were aimed at stabilising the economy and repositioning the country for long-term growth.

“What we are seeing today are the foundations for long-term growth and shared prosperity,” he added.

The minister stressed that Nigeria’s improving economic outlook must be safeguarded through unity, responsible communication, and collective support for national policies. He warned that negative or distorted narratives about the country could undermine investor confidence and slow development.

“Distorted narratives about the country hurt investors’ confidence and slow development. We must speak positively and truthfully about Nigeria,” Idris said. “When we project stability and unity, we attract investments and create opportunities for our people.”

Idris commended the GAT 2027 group for its civic engagement and commitment to promoting accurate public information. He also welcomed the group’s proposal to partner with the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Orientation Agency in public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication.

He noted that advocacy groups play a vital role in taking government policies to the grassroots, describing effective communication as essential to national stability and development.

The minister reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to building an inclusive Nigeria that works for all citizens, regardless of religion or background, and assured the delegation that the ministry would continue to collaborate with credible groups to ensure accurate information is widely disseminated.

Earlier, GAT 2027 National Coordinator, Prof. Ochugudu Ipuele, said the group visited to brief the minister on its activities and to express solidarity with his mandate.

“We are here to solidarise with you on the mandate you have for Nigeria, which is to inform the country, clarify government policies, and take information to the grassroots,” Ipuele said.

He added that the group remains committed to supporting President Tinubu’s policies by countering misinformation, especially during election periods, and by actively engaging young people.

“This group is poised to respond in real time to false or misleading information in the public space and to engage the youth,” he said.
