President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have extended their condolences to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, following the death of his mother, Alhaja Sidikat Abake Basiru.
The late matriarch passed away on Sunday, prompting messages of sympathy from top political leaders across the country.
In a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Alhaja Sidikat Abake Basiru as a disciplined and responsible mother who instilled enduring values of integrity, faith, selflessness, and discipline in her children.
The President noted that Senator Basiru’s contributions to national development and the growth of the APC reflected the quality of upbringing he received from his late mother.
“The loss of a loving mother is a profound moment of grief. While death is an inevitable part of life, the pain of losing a parent is deeply felt and leaves an enduring void,” Tinubu said.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased Aljanah Firdaus and comfort Senator Basiru, members of the Basiru family, friends, and loved ones during the difficult period.
Tinubu also urged the bereaved family to find solace in the exemplary life and lasting legacy left behind by the late matriarch.
Similarly, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu sympathised with Senator Basiru and his family, urging them to accept the loss as the will of Allah.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor described Alhaja Basiru as a fulfilled woman who raised responsible children and made a lasting impact on her community.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged that the death of a loved one is painful but encouraged the family to take comfort in the fact that she lived a meaningful and exemplary life.
“The elderly wisdom and counsel of Mama Basiru will be sorely missed, not only by her family but by her community, friends and all who knew her,” the governor said.
He prayed for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Aljanah Firdaus and give Senator Ajibola Basiru and the entire Basiru family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
On behalf of his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government, and APC leaders and members in the state, the governor extended heartfelt condolences to the Basiru family.
