The Tinubu Media Force (TMF), a grassroots progressive media network, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for advancing the long-debated proposal on State Police, describing it as a decisive step toward meaningful security reform in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Oluwagbenga Abiola (Agbelebu), the group commended the President’s courage, foresight, and statesmanship, noting that the initiative represents one of the most significant security policy shifts in the nation’s democratic history.

TMF stated that Nigeria’s increasingly complex security challenges demand decentralized, community-driven policing structures capable of responding faster and more effectively to local threats. According to the group, the proposed State Police system reflects a realistic understanding of Nigeria’s security landscape, where local intelligence, trust, and proximity are essential to effective law enforcement.

The organization further explained that policing becomes more efficient when officers understand the cultural, social, and security dynamics of the communities they serve. It expressed optimism that the reform would strengthen internal security, improve crime prevention, and enhance public safety nationwide.

TMF noted that Nigerians across political and regional divides have long called for a more responsive security framework that complements federal security agencies. It added that President Tinubu has demonstrated strong leadership by transforming long-standing debate into actionable policy direction under his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The group also commended the Nigerian Senate for what it described as a swift and patriotic response to the proposal, saying the upper chamber’s engagement reflects commitment to addressing Nigeria’s pressing security concerns.

Emphasizing the importance of safety to national development, TMF stressed that security remains the foundation for economic growth, investment, and social stability. It described the State Police initiative as a bold attempt to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve emergency response, and deepen collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

The group urged Nigerians to view the reform as a national project rather than a partisan issue, calling for unity and constructive dialogue among stakeholders.

TMF also highlighted the need for strong constitutional safeguards, accountability mechanisms, and operational frameworks to ensure the success of the proposed system, expressing confidence that ongoing consultations would produce a balanced and effective model.

It concluded by calling on political leaders, civil society groups, traditional institutions, and security experts to support the reform process, describing it as a collective effort to build a safer and more secure Nigeria.
