Afrobeats star Davido has hit back at Nigerian rapper Erigga in a fiery exchange on X, defending artists from wealthy backgrounds and hinting that he may soon walk away from music to focus on building his fortune.
The drama began when Erigga posted a message celebrating musicians who did not grow up with family wealth.
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” the Warri-born rapper wrote.
Davido, who comes from a prominent and wealthy family, took exception to the post. He replied:
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top. Comot here with that your useless motivation… imbecile.”
The “Aye” singer continued the exchange by declaring his intention to eventually step away from the music industry.
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he posted.
He rounded off the conversation with a rhetorical question: “Deep down, who like poverty?”
