The Working People United (WoPU), a coalition of workers, professionals and artisans, has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the most viable candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists after the 66th Independence Thanksgiving Service at Living Faith Church in Asaba, Delta State, WoPU Coordinator-General Comrade Prince Williams Eniredonana Akporeha praised the President’s performance over the past three and a half years. The event was attended by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other state officials.
Akporeha described Tinubu’s administration as bold and courageous for tackling challenges previous governments had avoided. He said that among current contenders, only President Tinubu has shown the vision and capacity to restore Nigeria’s greatness and build on the foundation laid by the nation’s founding fathers.
“Although President Tinubu inherited a collapsing country, he has shown the boldness to revive the dying economy so it can grow again and yield prosperity,” Akporeha stated. He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to look beyond political distractions and recognise the progress already being made.
The coalition highlighted several key policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, which it said has freed up funds for grassroots development; the establishment of Nigeria’s first private refinery; efforts to maintain steady petroleum supply despite global challenges; and support for state police and resource control. These measures, WoPU argued, will strengthen security, reduce corruption and promote equitable development.
It also noted that the floating of the naira has boosted export competitiveness, attracted foreign investment and reduced over-reliance on oil revenues—credentials the group believes set Tinubu apart from his rivals.
Akporeha, the immediate past President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), emphasised that the President is driven by national progress rather than personal gain. “As Nigeria attained its 66th year after independence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the kind of leader who knows about power and how to use it for the good of all,” he said. “As a leader who has zero tolerance for religious bigotry and insecurity, he has moved up Nigeria’s resources and surely has the will to finish the job he started meritoriously.”
As part of its strategy, WoPU plans nationwide mass sensitisation campaigns targeting workers and young people to mobilise support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akporeha concluded that navigating Nigeria’s current challenges demands resilience and tenacity—qualities he said Tinubu possesses, backed by a proven record in both private enterprise and public service. “The greatness of Nigeria is here,” he declared.
