The Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for renewed commitment to safeguarding the rights and future of Nigerian children, urging citizens to join efforts to eliminate child labour across the country.

In a message released on Friday to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour, the First Lady appealed to Nigerians to “raise a red card against child labour” and work collectively towards ensuring a safer and more promising future for children.

Referencing the 2026 theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” Mrs Tinubu said the occasion serves as a reminder of the need to protect every child’s right to education, safety, dignity and overall well-being.

She stressed that no child should be deprived of opportunities to learn, develop and pursue their aspirations because of forced labour or exploitative conditions.

According to her, children deserve to grow up in nurturing environments, including homes, schools and playgrounds, where they can thrive and realize their full potential.

The First Lady further urged stakeholders to continue investing in the welfare of children while creating economic opportunities that enable families and communities to adequately care for them.

“Let us all raise a red card against child labour and work together for a fairer and a promising future for every child,” she stated.

She also extended goodwill to Nigerians as the world marks the annual observance dedicated to ending child labour and promoting children’s rights globally.
