The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a complete sweep of local government elections in Enugu State, capturing all 17 chairmanship positions and every one of the 260 councillorship seats across the state’s wards.
Professor Christian Ngwu, Chairman and Chief Electoral Officer of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), announced the results on Saturday following the conclusion of final collation. He declared the APC candidates winners in both the chairmanship and councillorship contests statewide.
The outcome hands the ruling party full control of all 17 local government areas and every electoral ward in Enugu.
While congratulating the victorious candidates, Ngwu urged them to treat their wins as a call to serve the people rather than a mere political triumph. He called on the newly elected officials to prioritise the needs and welfare of residents in their respective areas. The ENSIEC chairman also praised security agencies and other stakeholders for their contributions to the exercise and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to credible, free and fair local government polls.
In a parallel development, the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) released results on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu. Chairman Dr Ibrahim Yabani described the election as “hitch-free” after it was conducted across the state’s 17 local government areas and 178 electoral wards. Ten political parties fielded candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions.
YOSIEC confirmed that APC candidates won in all 17 councils, delivering another clean sweep for the ruling party.
