Abia First Lady Welcomes State’s 2026 First Baby With ₦1 Million Cash and Gifts

 In a symbolic start to the year 2026, the Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has welcomed the state’s first newborn, Miss Oluebubechi Nwatuobi Excessgrace.
The baby girl arrived at exactly 12:43 a.m. on January 1, 2026, weighing 3kg, at the Akirika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ukwa West Local Government Area.
To celebrate the historic arrival, Mrs. Otti presented the newborn’s mother with a cash donation of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000)alongside essential supplies, including bags of rice, milk, vegetable oil, and sanitary kits. The First Lady noted that the donation was specifically designed to support the mother’s nutrition and well-being during the critical nursing period.
A Name of Grace
Filled with joy, Mrs. Otti bestowed the name “Ihuoma” upon the child, praying that she grows in peace, grace, and divine favor. She urged the parents to raise the child with strong moral values that would prepare her for a bright future.
Healthcare Reforms in Focus
Speaking at the facility, Mrs. Otti described the successful birth as a testament to the steady improvement and growing functionality of Abia State’s primary healthcare system.
“This birth is a joyful and symbolic beginning for our state,” the First Lady said. “I enjoin all expectant and nursing mothers across Abia to have full confidence in our government-owned health facilities and make consistent use of them for their safety and the health of their children.”
Commendation from the Health Ministry
The Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, who accompanied the First Lady, lauded her consistent support for the sector. He noted that her interventions significantly complement the healthcare reforms of Governor Alex Otti, which aim to strengthen delivery across all levels of the state.
