The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said President Bola Tinubu’s reported 30 per cent approval rating after three years in office reflects a growing loss of public confidence in his administration, citing worsening economic conditions, unemployment and insecurity across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party referenced findings from a nationwide survey conducted by Eagle Badger Data Analytics (EBDA), which it said revealed widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians regarding the state of the nation.

According to the survey, only 30.2 per cent of respondents approved of President Tinubu’s performance, while 47.5 per cent expressed disapproval.

The ADC argued that the figures underscore increasing frustration among citizens grappling with soaring food prices, rising transportation costs, unemployment and persistent security challenges.

“The significance of this report is clear: a President with only 30 per cent approval after three years in office has lost the confidence of the Nigerian people,” the party stated.

The opposition party further claimed that nearly seven out of every 10 Nigerians were either dissatisfied with the administration or unwilling to support its direction.

“That is not a political challenge. That is a national rejection,” the statement added.

Citing additional survey findings, the ADC noted that 62 per cent of Nigerians believed their living conditions had worsened compared to three years ago, while only 23.3 per cent reported improvements in their quality of life. It also highlighted that 42.4 per cent of respondents described their circumstances as “much worse” since the administration took office in May 2023.

The party linked public dissatisfaction to rising inflation and the escalating cost-of-living crisis, alleging that food prices have increased by more than 90 per cent and overall consumer prices by approximately 80 per cent since Tinubu assumed office.

“The government continues to celebrate macroeconomic statistics, but Nigerians do not eat statistics. They eat food. They pay rent. They pay school fees. They pay transport fares. They confront insecurity,” the ADC said.

The party also faulted the administration’s handling of security challenges, arguing that attacks by bandits, terrorists and other criminal elements continue to threaten communities nationwide.

According to the ADC, many farmers remain unable to access their farmlands safely, while millions of Nigerians continue to live under the shadow of insecurity.

“The responsibility now belongs entirely to President Tinubu and his administration. Leadership is measured by outcomes, not excuses,” the statement said.

The opposition party maintained that the survey highlighted a direct connection between deteriorating economic conditions and declining public approval of the government.

It added that Nigerians deserve leadership focused on improving living standards, creating jobs, strengthening security and delivering tangible economic benefits.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, the ADC said it remains committed to offering what it described as a credible alternative built on economic recovery, accountability, job creation and improved security.
