The Anambra State Government has dismissed widespread reports alleging that a structure within the new Government House collapsed בעקבות a heavy rainstorm on Thursday evening.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Christian Aburime, described the claims as “misleading and mischievous,” insisting that no building within the Government House complex suffered structural failure.
According to him, the damage recorded during the storm was limited to a few partitions of barricade barriers located about 20 metres outside the perimeter fence of the facility.
Aburime attributed the incident to intense winds and thunderstorms that swept through parts of Anambra State, noting that several private properties were also affected during the weather event.
“The attention of the government has been drawn to false reports suggesting a structural collapse due to substandard quality,” the statement read. “For clarity, no structure within the Government House collapsed.”
He further disclosed that the Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority has already mobilised to the site to begin reconstruction efforts.
Ongoing work includes rebuilding the affected barricades and implementing improved engineering solutions, such as creating adequate spacing to allow the free flow of strong winds and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The state government also condemned the spread of what it described as fake news, accusing certain individuals of attempting to politicise a natural weather incident.
Residents were urged to disregard the rumours and continue supporting the administration’s development agenda.
