Gabriel Paulista was sent off in the first half of Arsenal’s clash with Chelsea after a heated altercation with Diego Costa.

Brazil-born Costa was first involved in incidents with Laurent Koscielny, which included the Frenchman receiving several slaps to the face, for which the striker was shown a yellow card.

Koscienly did well to keep his cool in spite of the physical approach, though counterpart Gabriel was less composed.

Backing up into the striker after the initial incidents, the former Villarreal centre-back swiped at the striker with his foot in full view of referee Mike Dean, leading to his dismissal.

Social media erupted in the wake of the incident, with fans either slating or congratulating the Blues hitman, but all seem to be agreed that – for better or worse – Costa won the battle of wits.
