The Canada government has announced an upward review of application fees for permanent residence and citizenship, a move set to affect Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to relocate to the country.

In a statement shared on X on Monday, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada confirmed that the revised fees will take effect from April 30, 2026.

“Starting April 30, 2026, fees for permanent resident applications will increase as part of a routine update,” the agency stated, adding that all applications received on or after that date will be subject to the new charges.

Details published on the agency’s website show that the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will rise by $25, increasing from $575 to $600. The fee for the Provincial Nominee Program will also see a $40 increment, moving from $950 to $990.

Other categories are equally affected. Business applicants will pay $1,895, up from $1,810, while family class applications will increase from $545 to $570. Fees for protected persons will climb from $635 to $660.

Similarly, applicants under humanitarian and compassionate grounds, as well as public policy streams, will pay $660, reflecting a $25 increase. Permit holders will also see a slight adjustment, with fees rising from $375 to $390.

According to IRCC, the periodic review is in line with provisions of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, which mandates fee adjustments every two years to cover operational costs and respond to rising demand for immigration services.
