Afrobeats singer Charles Chibueze Chukwu, widely known as Crayon, has candidly spoken about his past struggles with mental health, shedding light on the pressures that nearly derailed his career.
During a recent livestream conversation with Carter Efe, the singer revealed that he was hospitalised in 2022 after battling intense emotional and psychological stress stemming from both family expectations and the demands of the music industry.
Crayon explained that the burden of trying to succeed and meet rising expectations significantly affected his well-being at the time.
“In 2022, I had mental health issues from all sorts of stress—family, industry, trying to be number one stress,” he said. “I was hospitalised for a long therapy session.”
According to the singer, the period of recovery proved transformative. After undergoing therapy, he returned with renewed focus and creativity, leading to the release of some of his popular tracks, including Ijo Labalaba and Overloading.
His revelation highlights the often-overlooked mental health challenges faced by artists navigating fame, expectations, and personal responsibilities.
