Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain Peter Obi has dismissed reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s entry into the 2027 presidential race affects his plans.
Speaking to journalists after his screening in Abuja, Obi emphasized that he is not concerned with who else is contesting. His focus, he said, remains on building a better Nigeria.
“Democracy is about people offering themselves for service and being voted for. I’m not going around looking at who is contesting. My priority is to build a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor highlighted the need for inclusive governance, anchored on the constitutional principle of federal character. He stressed that Nigeria must become secure enough for citizens to move freely without fear, and for families to live without anxiety over insecurity and killings.
Obi concluded that his vision is a Nigeria where merit matters, and where “the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
